I have not done the blower, but I did the heater core on my 86 5ks.  I
wouldn't say it was a horrendous job, but certainly a PIA.  I removed the
whole unit on the engine side of the firewall.  Opened it up, replaced the
core and put it back together.  Also half of your dash console and radio
have to come off.  It took me one whole Saturday in the summer.

Now, swapping an engine is a horrendous job.
