RE: Insurance woes, 85 urQ

I use AAA, or California Automobile Association. I have one speeding
ticket on my record, I'm 34 yrs old,
no wrecks and share the insurance jointly with my wife. The 85 urQ I
bought is going to run me $1050
a year for full coverage. My Scirocco, which I maintain double the
minimum liability required by the state
of Ca. is about a $550 a year. Oddly enough, my wife's 1989 Jetta GLI
runs about the same as the urQ.
One good thing about AAA is that I can customize my policy. For example
the urQ is not going to be a daily driver so I can modify my policy on
that car very 30 days depending on if I plan on driving it.
A down side is the insurance company's idea of a hot rod. My wife's
Jetta is considered a sports
sedan with a higher premium eventhough it only makes 123hp. Also, by
today's standards neither the
urQ or the Jetta are big horsepower (kilowatt hrs if you will) cars. My
Ford pick-up had over 300 hp and
would lay rubber all the way down the street but it was only about $400
dollars to insure it.
