I want a Porsche yes, a silver Boxster with black leather...atlthough it's
a little impractical. I also can't afford it and if I could it could not
feasibly be a daily driver. That said I do not think I am a rarity by any
stretch of the imagination. So for those of us who need something more
practical than the Boxster or the bigger 911 then yes an RS spec audi would
be right up my alley. Right now if I had the $40K to blow it would be a
used S6 or a smaller car....my only option there is an M3 sedan.

They have cake and they can eat it...with icing. They can buy a V8 S6 and
tune it to their heart's content. If the A8 is a little big and pricey for
me, then my next option is a 2.8l A6 with a 0-60 that would not scare many
minivans.

I do. I have read on numerous occasions that Porsche would like to increase
it's production over the coming years. I have heard of 3 proposed ideas.
1. SUV- it was to be based on the MercBenz AAV, but I read that MB
cancelled the project in last week's autoweek because it was more luctative
for Porsche than MB.
2. Minivan- possibly on the VW Sharan since that is the only German minivan
at the moment and there was a Porsche tuned version on the show circuit
last year.
3. 3rd World Mini Car- Why I do not know, but leave it to VW IMHO

were sold to them correctly.

You actually raised a good point in your Freudian Porsche Envy Theory.
Think of it this way. If I want the cheapest Porsche (new), it'll cost me a
minimum of $40K (US) if I do it legally. And I am stuck with a 2 seater
sports car that is rear wheel drive and attracts cops and thieves like bees
to honey.
Now if Audi+Porsche were to build an RS4 I am guessing it would be circa
$40K. Now I have an awd sedan that can seat 4 adults (maybe not really
comfortably in the back seat), but does not compromise performance. Sure
the top doesn't go down but that keeps my insurance premium down.
If I won the lotto I would buy atleast 3 cars. They would include a
Boxster, a homebuilt RS4, and a tweaked Grand Cherokee. If I were limited
though and could only own just one of the three, It'd be the Audi hands
down. The Audi get's me the closest to having the best of all worlds.
If Audi builds the damn things they might sell themselves, but more
realistically they will need a good sales pitch. For that Audi needs to
know their customer. In the US I do not think they know their customers all
that well IMHO.

PS Why is it that the guy with the Corrado is always asked if he has
Porsche envy? :)
