A4 2.8 30V to appear soon ... maybe?

Visiting my local dealer today, I found to my dismay that their A4
allocation for March production is a mere two cars -- one 2.8L model
(auto or stick), and one 2.8L 30V stick -- compared to their usual 4-6
cars. No 1.8T cars at all, which is what *I* want!

The sooner-than-expected A4 30V will be a '98 model, and will carry a
corresponding price tag. VW Canada's estimate was a 6-8% higher price
compared to the '97 A4 2.8L. This would mean an approximately C$40K
sticker here, or close to US$30K south of the border. The good news is
that it'll have a "real" sport package available with wider wheels and
tires (17"?) and a lowered suspension. This should work nicely with
that 193 bhp V6!

Me, I think I'll stick with the 1.8T. But the lack of allocation is a
concern, and pretty much all the 1.8T models they have on the lot or
coming are the automatics. Right now they have two on the lot, and six
more on the way, but only one unsold 5-speed on order. Sigh.
