Re: I'm looking for 90 Coupe 1991-1993

Arthur,

If you find one advertised as a '92 or '93, avoid it like the plague.
They were never imported into the US ('91 was last year).

Later cars (late '90 and '91) had improvements, largely in rear sway bar
and air bag in car; mechanicals/electrical also had numerous upgrades
(whenever ordering parts, must have chassis number to ensure you get
right parts).

Engine /tranny largely indestructible, but timing belt has to be changed
every 50,000 miles. Brake servo assist/power steering system prone to
leaks/failures, especially the pressure accumulator known as the "bomb".
Withe ngine idling, pump the brake pedal hard and rapidly several times; if
warning light comes on on dash, hydraulic system has problems.

Every switch on dash is lit; the bulbs are prone to failures, so fi you want
the lights to continue on, have to repalkce swich ($20 and up) to replace a
50 cent bulb, or else tear down switch and wire in a new one. Electrical
system pretty good, although I had a starter motor die on me and have
had sporatic problems with engine temp gauge (bad connector) and outside
temp gauige (bad sensor; if this goes, your climate control system also
starts goiing bonkers). Cooling system complicated; make sure the electrical
radiator cooling fan works or you'll overheat. People have found the new
Sears Die-Hard batteries don't fit; mine is 2 years old and is working fine.

Brakes last fine (am on 3rd set of fronts, 2nd set of rears in very hilly
terrain
and am an agressive driver), but can eventually warp rotors. Fuel injection
is bulletproof, ignition can be expensive (wires >$100 a set, plugs are
multi-
electrode, rotor must be broken off disributor to replace).

Try one out first; head room is marginal (I'm 5' 10" and am scraping roof).

If you are buying a Coupe to cut down on maintenance expense, advice is to
try different car. Audi's are NOT cheap to maintain/fix (just paid $50 for
alt/PS/AC belts; now I have to install them).

 Hi

I want to switch from my Corrado G60 to Audi Coupe 1991-1993.
Would you e-mail me with some advices (general info) and what fair price
 should I expect?
I live in Bay Area, California.

 Thanks and happy driving

 Arthur

P.s. I have Alfa Romeo '87 for sale. It's great car, but expensive for me to
mentain. If you now somebady who might be interested in, please forward this
 e-mail. Thanks.
