Ahh, good point and the answer is of course no-except in the eyes of the
law...and murphey's law too. I always signal no matter what. The reason? The
more I do that is automatic or second nature while driving, the more
attention I can pay to more important stuff-like the road. If I were to have
to make it a concious decision (should I or shouldn't I?) every time I went
for that stalk on the left (okay right on real old bummers) then I would be
detracting my thoughts from something that may someday be more important.
OTOH, when bicycling, I do only signal when it seems appropriate, but there
is much less else to pay attention to operating while cycling and speeds are
generaly much slower. Can we tell yet that people who don't signal is a pet
peave?! Of course, I understand your point...middle of nowhere, no cars in
sight, expensive to replace multi-function stalk switch...yeah, if I drove in
those conditions regularly I'd probably do the same as you.
