Some interesting driving news(no Audi content)
All,
Due to the large amount of stuff concerning licensing requirements,
road etiquette, politics and the like I thought I
would post some recent bits of news:
1.(This should be no surprise to any driving enthusiast) Insurance
Companies have determined that cell phone
users are considered as great a risk on the road as someone under the
influence of acholol. The claim is your
concentration is inhibited due to distraction (even for hands off
phones) and your ability to control your car
is reduced because in most cases you then only have one had on the
wheel.
Cell phone manufacturers were quick to point out that while cell phone
sales have gone up, accidents have gone down. I
will keep my opinion about driving and talking on the phone to myself. I
don't see many Audi owners talking on the phone.
2. Recently here in Santa Cruz county there was a late night chase
between a restaurant owner and an individual
"with a tendency towards aggression" as they were coming over the "Hill"
(Hwy17). This chase ended in Capitola (a very nice little beach town)
with the restaurant owner gunning down the individual "with a tendency
towards aggression" on the side of the road.
The gunman was aquitted and is a free man. The jury determined he was
acting in self defense even though he was armed
illegally. Civil suit to follow and neither person was driving an Audi.
Perhaps this will inspire some kindness here in Ca.
3. More local news. Yesterday there was a "child safety seat education
program" to teach motorists proper use of car seats. This is a check
point they setup along a busy street to stop motorists. The county
estimates it brought in several thousand dollars. I guess the education
was to learn how to avoid highway patrol check points. The segment
started out sounding so nice that I just knew there had to be some
revenue generation in there somewhere. One poor farm worker got a safety
tip that cost her $300.
Ah yes, life in sunny California.
