Carlisle Import Auto Show (Central PA)
Hi All,
I just wanted to share with you a show that is going on in Carlisle, PA
from May 9-11. This show is the Import, Kit and Replicar show. It covers
all manner of import cars, and is really starting to grow. Two highlights
are the great swapmeet and the Sunday Car Giveaway.
The Giveaway this year is an 86 Alfa Romeo Spyder. All you need is your
entrance tickets from any day and be present within 15minutes of the
announcement to win. In the past I've seen em giveaway a '69 Beatle with
Porsche 6cylinder and a Beck 550 Spyder Replica (remember James Dean).
Gates open at 7AM and adult daily admission is $5. It's cheaper though to
enter your car. If you enter your car you get a "goody bag" including among
other things two chances for the giveaway car and 2 weekend passes (i.e.
you get in all weekend, unlike the $5 each for a daily pass if not
showing). It's much cheaper to show your car.
For clubs, if you get 20 cars preregistered you can get a tent. So for the
CCA or any other club, if we get 20 cars we'll get a tent for the club for
meetings and display to sign new members. You can enter any car, and I'll
enter my 2 (Jetta and Corrado) under the CCA name, so we're 10% of the way
there. There are camping facilities, so if you have a tent it can be a
really cheap weekend.
Carlisle is located about 10-15min. west of Harrisburg PA, easiest found
by taking the PA turnpike to the Carlisle exit and it's 5 minutes from
there. From DC it's less than 2 hour's drive, and Philly about 2 hours. I
can get directions for interested parties or call the Carlisle people at
(717)243-7855.
There is a competition show field, stereo and autocross competition. Other
events are a Specialty Car Manufacturer's Car Corral, Seminars, Cruise and
Club Gatherings. The Honda and other Japanese showing has been getting
stronger over the years, and I'd love to show them up. I'm going to enter
both of my VWs in the show. It's not like Waterfest with alot of serious
show cars, and entering your daily driver will not be embarrassing parked
next to the likes of Euro-tec's 60K Cabrio.
I'm going to attempt to get a CCA table up and running and will talk that
over with the CCA at the organizational meeting.
The show field is a weak point as far as import cars go. The kit and
replica field is usually alot bigger. A VW dealer is usually in attendance
with a tent full of the new VW products. I'd like to encourage anyone close
by to go, and it's not because I am affiliated with the Carlisle
Fairgrounds in any way. This is just a great venue for a show, and a strong
VW Audi showing would be very cool. If the following got large enough, I'm
sure CFG would separate the shows again as it used to be just the Import
Auto Show.
I just thought I'd spout this out, as it's an early show in the east coast
show season. AND if you have a VW, Audi, Porsche, Triumph or Fiat or
whatever, it's showable.
Maybe we can plan some sort of cookout nearby. My family has a house in
Hershey (1/2 hour away) and there are some great places in the area. If you
get bored at the show and want to see the sights, I may even be able to get
some discounts from Hershey Park.
