Dealers, Cali Stuff

I have seen a lot of discussion on the list about poor quality of Audi dealerships, so I thought I'd mention that my experience has been nothing but positive. My Atlanta dealer says that Audi will ship my new A4 to the nearest dealership to my new home in California. So I can pay Ga sales tax. He called it a courtesy delivery. This on top of a very pleasant negotiation of the purchase.

Which brings me to more questions about California emissions and taxes. Hopefully a list member in California will have some information for me. Since I last posted I have tried at least fifty times to get through long distance to the California Motor Vehicle Department, without success. The A4 in the dealership did not have a Cali emissions sticker, and the manager confirmed that only those vehicles intended for sale in California get those stickers. So is it correct that I have to pay the emissions penalty while it is proven that the car meets requirements? Who obtains this proof, me or the state? Someone commented previously that California might try to charge me the difference is sales tax between theirs and where I bought it. This seems to me to be completely illegal. Not like they would give me a refund if I bought it somewhere with higher sales tax! Can anyone who has knowledge on this topic help me out.

I know this is an outrageous request, but is there a kindhearted list member in California who might be able to find out from his/her local DMV office? T very much IA !
