Offer Someone May Not Refuse
I am now the proud owner of the ACTUAL factory tool #3203, which is
used to remove the crankshaft seal from the front, while the oil pump
is still installed. This is a HEFTY tool. It's a large cone with
sides about 3/8" thick. The front, smaller portion of the cone has
very large threads, and the cone's center is the correct diameter to slide
over the crankshaft end.
The back end of the tool is cut to provide a solid grip for a crescent
wrench, obviously to help screw the tool into place.
One screws the cone into the crankshaft seal until it is tight, then
part two of the process occurs.
The inside of the tool is also threaded. One screws a second fitting into
this, which forces the cone to retract, using the end of the crankshaft as
the push point. Kinda like screwing a bolt into a nut; you will push
out whatever's inside the nut.
As the cone retracts, it pulls the seal. Or at least I hope it does when
I try it tonight. The second fitting has a rachet wrench hole to turn
it, so it should be easy enough, as long as I get a good purchase on
the seal.
I am deciding what to do with the tool after I complete the seal
removal and replacement. The tool cost $100, and I will either
gladly rent it to list-members (to recoup some of my investment on a
one-time use tool) OR perhaps sell it for half-price if someone is
interested. The result is that someone would get a neat tool for
half the money, and I would have my cost reduced by 50%.
Anyone interested in renting or buying it may email me direct and
I'll decide which is the most appropriate action. In udda wordz -
"Eh! Make me an offer I can't refuse!"
