Re: 4kQ tranny into V8

I was thinking, after talking with Bob Dupree at Graydon's over the weekend
if the tranny (016, I believe) from my '85 4Q could replace the Auto I've
got, with of course some mods for clutch pedal assembly et al from a manual
5k,100,200. I know the trans ECU wouldn't be necessary, but am I just
dreaming? Would it mate up with the torsen? Bob wants the front and rear
diffs from by 4KQ (4.11's, I think), so I know at least one interested party.
Any ideas? And no, the trans is not about to go south (fingers crossed). I
have a pentosin leak somewhere, so that will have to do as my sacrifice to
the Audi gods.

Hold up, be careful, do not pass go... Leave the auto in there... 1) the
ECU controls the center diff locking too, are you going at the driveshaft?
 2) The 4kq is not interchangeable with the 5kq rear, the 5kq is longer 3)
The right side of ALL v8 driveshafts holds a pump and a trans oil cooler,
you want that to remain on your boat. 4) The center diff is NOT A TORSEN,
it is a Electronic Multiplate Clutch diff... The rear is a torsen, and is
interchangeable to 5kq driveshafts for bolt in.... So to do this swap, you
need a center diff with trans minimum, and you will reduce the life of the
016 too....

Ingo, you are better off finding a v8 5spd (good luck) than messing with the
autobox... When the autobox goes, then you can explore your options further
(I heard 3800USD for that rebuild)
