Re: Screaming fuel pump
I took one from my '90 100q apart after it started to sieze (left
lane of I95 @ 75mph, rush hour, naturally). The apparent cause of failure
was the Teflon (?) coating was worn off one spot in the pump chamber,
exposing metal which wore off and got ingested in the pump motor. My guess
is that the only real fix would be to put some kind of fine particle filter
upstream of the pump. The screens that Audi/Bosch used don't do the trick
apparently. In my car they go like clockwork at 70K - 75K intervals.
