4KQ Sneaky Power Loss Alert!

At our track day last weekend at PIR, (NW Audi Quattro Club), a
bunch of us 4KQ owners were comparing notes. I was puzzled by
the fact that my recently installed
full-throttle-fuel-enrichment black box from AVS wasn't
working. Gary Erickson pointed out that the full-throttle
switch not working could account for it, so we did a simple
test of the this stupid little switch... it wasn't working!
which means I've been driving around for god knows how long
without even stock full-throttle power! (let alone AVS enriched
power.)

Here's the kicker. After lining up a bunch of red 4KQs for a
group picture, we all did the test. Of the FIVE 4KQs tested,
FOUR had inoperative full-throttle switches! Only Gary's
worked.

Here's the test. WIth the engine idling, depress the little
lever on the switch. wait several seconds. The motor should
bog down noticeably as the idle fuel-air mix gets overly
richened. If there is no change, your switch is inoperative.
Try unplugging and re-plugging its harness connector a few
times to see if its oxidized, or replace. (Gary thought one
might be able to get it open and possible repair it).

If not familiar with the switch, just manually work the
throttle lever and note the switch that gets pressed at the
limit, just a bit aft of the center of the valve cover.

Thanx Gary Erickson!

Cheers,
Leigh

P.S. I still managed to figure out the lines at PIR better
this time and got down to a 1:39 lap even without proper
full-throttle power. I was repeatedly catching a BMW 535i in
the corners despite the straightaway difference. Quattros Uber
Alles!

Got a ride in a _very_ impressive NSX and Larry Vollum's
Renault Group A rally car. Yeeehaaaa!

QUATTROS UBER ALLES!
