Re: Torque Wrench adapters...

To an engineer who did learn statics once, the furor over torque wrench
extensions is a bit surprising. For those who don't understand the
several correct explanations that have been posted, how about the
instruction manual from an actual torque wrench? Mr. Sears (no rude
comments, please) sez:

"At times... a special attachment must be utilized. Such attachments
change the calibration settings of the torque wrench, and it is
necessary to calculate the correct settings using the following
formulas.

"E - Effective length of extension-- measured along the centerline of
the torque wrench

"L - Lever length of the wrench-- center of grip to center of drive

"T(W) - Torque set on the wrench

"T(E) - Torque applied by the extension to the fastener

"T(W) = T(E) * L / (L + E) T(E) = T(W) * (L + E) / L"

Thus, (torque wrench) length matters.
