Hydraulic Accumulator (bomb) replacement
Looks like I'll be replacing the hydraulic accumulator in my (Ann's now) '84
5kS. Looking thru Mr. Bentley here, trying to get psyked about the project
(yeah, right) but I find that Mr. Bentley neglected to instruct how to
remove said 'bomb' from the car. Is this becuase it's painfully simple
(it's an Audi, it can't be painfully simple) or just an oversight? From the
manual, it doesn't look terribley involved, but I haven't cralwed under the
car yet to see what all is involved. Checking the stupid thing is well laid
out, but nowhere does it say how to remove it. I know it's dead, the
second the engine stops the pedal is rock hard. The pedal also gets rock
hard & fights back after about a half an hour of driving, you've got to plan
ahead to get it to stop (not the safest situation in the world, so it pretty
much sits & Ann takes the bus to work.) Also, good ole' Robert says you
need to drill a hole in the side before pitching it. Drilling into a hand
grenade doesn't seem to be the smartest thing int eh world, is the thing
gonna blow up & take my had off, or just spew nitrogen (like there's any
left in it anyhow-) for a bit?
TIA!
