<V8> driveshaft donut

Hi all: :-(

Got my '90 back from Rietzl in Norwell, Mass. yesterday and they
diagnosed a "BRRRT" sound on hard acceleration as the failure (worn,
105k miles) of a rubber bushing near the front of the driveshaft. The
service guy Larry was flabbergasted that Audi only sells the donut
attached to a complete driveshaft assembly for $800+. Is this the only
way to fix this problem? Is this something which needs quick attention
or is it just an annoyance? Does anyone have any ideas on this?

TIA.
