Since these are essentiall rubber hoses shrouded in braided stainless
steel, failure from "rust" seems unlikely.
However, I had a gasket between a hose and the cooler fail on the road. 
This caused immediate oil pressure loss and warning light notification. 
Upon examination the gasket had cracked.  My dealer said he'd see it
before.  
As long as you're poking around with those hoses, gasket replacement is
very cheap insurance.

BTW my failure occurred 80K ago and the bearings are still silent.
