It is possible to replace just the rubber boot itself, Audi has a
replacement rubber available for ball joints, about $15. I have not located
any other vendors with replacement boots, only the dealer.
The replacement job is a bit tricky but not too hard, just be careful not
to tear the boot, grease it as well while you are at it, also check and
make sure that the inner part of the ball joint are not broken (pieces of
plastic floating arouned....
