There are actually 2 models of the '87 Coupe GT (the car was called
the "Coupe" until 1984, when it changed to the "Coupe GT". all
coupes in 1987 are a "Coupe GT"): 1) 2.2L 110hp version, and 2) 2.3L
130hp version. It should have rear disc brakes and a digital dash,
although that may depend on the built date of the car.

For a reasonable summary of the various Coupe models, check out my

If the Coupe GT has the 2.2L engine with analog dash, then the only
differences are the body style, drivetrain, and the extra oil-pressure
analog gauge in the center console (the 4Kq has the same 2.2L engine &
analog dash, but a digital center console with 2 gauges and the diff lock
switch). If the Coupe GT has the 2.3L engine, you will get 130hp
(vs. 110hp), and the digital dash. The interiors are nearly identical on
both cars, otherwise.

Which would I buy? That is a difficult question, and depends on where
you live and the relative condition of the two cars. If you are in an
area that sees some snow and ice in the winter, you would probably
prefer the all-wheel drive 4Kq. However, the Coupe GT will definitely
be faster because it is lighter and has 20 more hp in stock form (if it
is the 2.3L Coupe; if not, then it will still be slightly faster in
straightline acceleration because it is lighter). The Coupe GT also looks
nicer than the 4Kq, IMHO.

I prefer the analog cluster over the digital, the Coupe body style
over the 4Kq. You definitely need to determine the relative condition
of the two cars. One may be in much better condition than the other,
which would help make your decision.

They are really very similar cars, so a lot depends on whether or not
you want quattro AWD in a sedan body style or a faster FWD car in a
coupe body style. I own an '85 Coupe GT with the 2.2L 110hp engine,
and love it. It is an uncommon car with a lot of character.
At the same time, I am looking for a 4Kq to use as a second car because
it is more practical for passengers. I would not trade my Coupe GT in
for a 4Kq, though.
