Pentosin

The owner's manual of my 1986 Audi 4000 CSq does not call for Pentosin as
the fluid in the power steering unit or in the power assist brake unit.

It specifically calls for ATF Dexron in the power assisted steering unit
reservoir, and Dot 4 brake fluid in the power assisted brake reservoir.
Both statements are in clear black print, right there on page 73.

I am posting this because much of the information appearing on the list
implies that anyone using anything except Pentosin in their hydraulic
system is going to ruin the pump and seals. Yes, you must use Pentosin in
Audi's requiring that fluid, but not all Audi models require Pentosin.

I am sure that MANY or even MOST Audi's require Pentosin for the hydraulic
fluid in the power assisted steering unit. But SOME don't. Mine doesn't.
Maybe yours doesn't either. My owner's manual specifies what to use. Maybe
your's does also.

Part 2 of my Pentosin quest.

Parts guy at the Audi dealer in Milwaukee tells me that MB & BMW use 2
different kinds of hydraulic oil in their cars; one a match for Audi and
the other not. He says that if you put PS fluid in the Pentosin canister
you eat pump and rack seals(I do remember one or more thread about that).

Off to Milwaukee to buy some juice!!
