Re: quattro is a hit with CAR
In a note dated 3/1/97 Allan Jones writes (with tongue firmly in cheek ;-)
):
<<How can you possibly miss the I5, don't you make love with one every day?
You do have and drive a 4Ks quattro, no? And the quattros did come with the
wonderful 2.x I5, did they not? Why, then, are you complaining? ;-)>>
Good one! 2 answers...YES!!! And, I'm only complaining because someday the
new quattro of today will become my used quattro of tommorow as I am in this
(quattro fanaticism thing) for life and I ain't that old yet! OTOH...perhaps
enough of the q's of the 80's will truly last forever and I won't have to
worry...mine feels like it will outlive me on some days ;-)
<<Maybe so, but that is prolly because refinement takes away edges that give
character.>>
This a fact...but I wouldn't mind the refined "character" of an old Carrera
(new 911awd twin turbo comes to mind), nor would I mind the refined
"character" of a S4/S6 (or for that matter an A41.8t to be honest...)
<<I am currently broke too, but I have to disagree, I would absolutely LOVE
to be driving a manual A4 turbo q with all the possibilities out there for
performance improvements.>>
If I could afford a new A41.8tq...I would either be in the market for a 91
200q, S4, or S6, or working on a tuning project with an ur-q or 5ktq with the
funds (unless I had a good reason to buy new again, like using the car for
business). I don't think I will ever be buying any car new ever again-have
lost too much money in first year depreceation BTL(lost)T too many times and
am still skeptical about Audi's ability to retain value-not complaining, just
taking advantage of the other end of the food chain ;-). If an A41.8tq manual
were reasonable on the used market in say 3-5 years, I would certainly
consider one then...don't get me wrong as I do like 'em...I5 or not.
