I find it a little hard to believe too, but you have to know that in
Europe you can get a VW TDI that comes from the factory with 120 hp (or
is it 110) and that is just with a lowly 12 valve head. The US version
puts out 90 hp. Chipped it puts out over 100 hp. There was an article
on a modified Passat TDI in EC not too long ago and it compared favorably
against the VR6! Sure it's not as fast but in real life driving the two
are very similar while the TDI gets 45 mpg. Pretty amazing.
