Re: Reliable British Cars

I've got to jump back in on this thread. I promise I'll put an obligatory
Audi postscript.
I've owned 2 1950 MG TDs and a 1953 Jag. XK210 MC (the aluminum body job).

The Lucas coil was fine BTW -- but oh those fuelpumps. With the MGs, it
was just open the bonnet and give the pump a good whack. But, the Jags was
under the car. Just the thing while trying to impress the lovely coed --
yes it was back when we called women college students coeds.

Postscript - I have the "pleasure" of a 16 yr old son. Wife insists he
drive the safer care. So, now I drive the '84 VW Jetta GLI and he drives
my '86 4kcsq. Anway, home he comes and says "Dad you need to listen to the
car; it doesn't sound right." Well at least I'm thinking at least he
didn't come home and ask me to look at a dent.. I start up the car, begin
to back up and quickly stop at the sound of the worst screeching. I'm
thinking bearings and god knows what else. Pull the left rear wheel, turn
hub, hear screech, slightly deform dust shield and out falls very tiny
pepple. It was lodeged between rotor and shield, the shield acting like a
cymbol.

Sorry for the BW, but I was feeling chatting. Some other time I'll go on
about how I argued with my wife that I survived adoslescence driing right
hand drive little MG.
