Keep your car wheels straight............
Vehicles are primarily designed for direct front or rear collisions.
Angling the vehicle will, generally, increase the amount of damage and 
may push you into oncoming traffic or onto the sidewalk (pavement for 
the Brits amongst us). A certain amount of skill and prescience is a 
wonderful thing but not all of us have the wherewithal or the reflexes.
Having just been hit up the arse by a 'bus in my wifes A4Q and having 
only $187.80 of damage is a miraculous thing. His skidmarks told all 
and, generally, in the U.S. if you get hit up the bum its the other 
guys fault. That is unless you have witnesses to any aberrant behaviour 
on your part. If you are in traffic and everyone is stopped and some 
idiot hits you, it is not your fault!!
