Audi V8 remote entry system.

Steve:

We tracked down the problem with the remote entry on my 1992 V8 Quattro.
The pump is o.k., and both the keys emit infra-red. However, the IR
receiver
on the left hand side appears to be defective - voltage is several volts
down.
Could be a bad connection, but before I strip out trim to look, I would
like to
have a replacement available. Only problem is - price! For this small,
small
gizmo, which is probably nothing more than a gallium arsenide film, the
dealer
price is $ 390 in Canada. Have not checked the U.S. price with the local
dealer
yet. I am sure there must be one in a used parts place, or possibly
someone
who imports from jobbers in Germany.

The Radio shack device is a little plastic card with an IR-sensitive strip.
Catalogue No. is 276-1099 and they cost $ 5.99 (U.S.). Works best in a
dark
room, and the IR transmitter has to be fairly close. Great fum for testing
TV
remotes and other things.

Let me know if you have a good address for IR receivers - are they the same
as
used on other Audis from that time? The radio system on my A6 is an
improvement.

        Regards,
        Dennis Jones.
