I was looking to stay above the fray, but I noticed
something in Sargent's last post that rang a bell
I had to answer. I've launched and recovered a lot
of boats with everything from 4x4, AWD Audis,
LNG boat lifts and lawn tractors. Nothing quite like
seeing a newbie shave 2/32's off the rear tires
on his V8 RWD muscle car and his boat go nowhere
then have his jaw sink lower than his waterline
as you neatly pull his boat out with your "babe magnet"

Point being that Sargent twice used the phrase
"yank" his boat out of the water. Yes this could
"grossly" over stress your clutch.
IMHO, with the EBrake set, diff(s) locked where
applicable, any 4000, 5000, 100/200 Quattro
could easily recover a 3500lb load from 90%
of the ramps I've come across. With the over-
built nature of Audi drive line & good torque in
general I've seen no need to feather the
clutch in these situations. Simultaneously
off the clutch/release the EB away you go!
Many of the small pickups and SUV's of
80's have 4 and 6 cyl powerplants that don't
equal the Hp and Torque #'s of 5000Q et al,
But no one thinks twice of towing with them!
However I
wouldn't make a load that size habit with
any Audi less than a large frame Audi
5000/100 or V8,
