Avi - I assure you that nobody I know EVER puts old-fashioned regular
motor oil in their computer.
On another point-of-reference, my Ford Escort is 10 years old, and
was driven hard and fast during that time. It still is at
factory-spec compression with virtually no engine wear. I never put
in synthetic oil, but I did change the oil every 3500 miles or so.
My Audi A4Q has closer tolerances and is expected to keep the oil
longer. On the flip side, I also don't expect to keep the car for
ten years - too many gadgets that will break in that time (sunroof,
electric motors, vacuum locks, temperature sensors, etc.) IF I were
in it for the very long term, I'd pay extra for synthetics, which I
do believe work better. I just don't believe that I actually NEED
better - regular is already good enough.
