Not quite... when lifters ticks it's not intermittent, it's there, or it
isn't.... when the car warms up some time the noise goes away.... or when
you change the oil.. 
Lifters work on oil delivery and hydraulic pressure, it's not
intermittent.....if the lifter leaks down it might be noisy but when it
fills up (when oil pres. is up and warm) it  (might) quiets down...(there
is more but I'll keep it short).....
