This brings up some interesting legal questions, Bruce are you there?
Quoting a TSB verbatum on the internet, might well be an infringement of
coypywrite, I believe the precedence is already in the law books. The TSB's
are as proprietary as Bentley manual zeroxing. Referencing a TSB and giving
a summation of the cause and fix is prolly just fine, and has been this lists
way for the 3+ years I've been here. Several listmembers have the TSB's for
audis (myself included, and some of these posts sound exactly familiar),
though carefully avoid "scanner" type refrains from their context. I would
think someone would want to informally contact Audi US for a "call" on this
before Julius is encouraged to post any more. A TSB <link> might even be
something Audi would want to entertain. I personally, am not convinced of
this at all.
Included in some of the TSB's are Corporate Notations: "Calls" on "who" and
"how" and "which" customers cars are eligible for the "fix." "Replacement
of xxxx not to be performed without prior authorization from zone" appears
quite often in the TSB's themselves. That is where Audi could get very
testy, and cease and desist orders (beyond Julius, how 'bout to your helpful
TSB sharing dealer) could quickly follow. It is blatently clear from those
very TSB's, that all customers are NOT treated equal in the eyes of Audi.
Yes they are helpful, and I applaud the "intention", just question the modus.
TSB's are accessible to anyone with the tenacity to find them, most dealers
are willing to share. Making the stretch to quoting them on the net might
change all this in the eyes of the Law and Audi AG itself. Let's not shoot
ourselves in the foot here. We will all still want access to them 3+ years
from today.
