Re: [Q] Wheel bearings on 87 4kcsq
Avi--
Agreed, a bearing is designed to be loaded up in one directrion (essentially, down,
via gravity). My backyard 'analysis', (if we can even call it that), is that as
components become worn, there is more room for play, thus noise, vibration, grinding,
etc. when that bearing is loaded up where it *shouldn't* be or wasn't designed to be,
because of aforementioned wear. Perhaps balls (or rollers depending on bearing)
rolling free where they were never meant to be. (I believe that rhymes).
Anyway, I wholly agree on your explaination of the principal, and also that CV's are
definitely a whole new shootin' match (ugh, what fun... :<), and actually responded so
that maybe some of the engineers (or latent engineers) on the list could add to our
posts and explain some of the nuances that lead to our different interpretations!
BTW< front end noise/vibration/play, etc. is one of my MAJOR automotive pet peeves.
And why I am so interested in the minutae of mechanical parts is probably for a
therapist to figure out!
Cheers!
