busted
Interesting story about radar and CB.
6AM Sat, on the way to VT to hit the slopes (gotta love
20+ inches of snow!) and we're about 5 miles from home.
It's dark, I have the radar on, CB on, and people are on
the channel (23 on the Taconic State Parkway). I'm
tailing someone (by 1/2 mile) doing about 80, him 85+.
Out of nowhere, a radar blast. Then, I see lights behind me gaining
fast, whereas before there were none. The flashing reds soon
followed.
Cop comes over, smiling, says "gee, radar and CB don't work so great
when I get you from behind huh?"
The good part of the story is that he was a local, not a trooper,
and that plus my PBA card waived the speeding ticket. My
not-so-awake friend in the front seat got us a no seatbelt ticket
though. Oh well.
He was slick, and managed to catch me despite my gear and my
"never be the fastest car on the road" rule. Watch your tail folks.
Oh, a fellow CBer told me about a legal jammer that he had tested
that reduces radar range by 75%. Next time I see him on the
road I'm going to check it out, but he said it's a pretty basic
device that any air force guy could build for pennies.
