87 Coupe GT
Hi Jon & welcome!
I have a car which could be a twin of your new one. Mine is an '87 with the
2.3 litre engine. Alpine white with white leather interior, white wheels,
mirrors, rear spoiler, side window frame surrounds, etc. Mine has 109k.
When I bought it in Oct of 1990 it had 59k and also needed the reverse light
switch replaced. Not a big deal.
Tires? Stay with that size and consider the Dunlop D60A2. It is a
performance all season and is relativley quiet and smooth. I also had
Pirelli P500's which seemed to wear out too quickly. Of course both are
all-season and there may be comparable or better (wet traction) tires which
would be suitable for FL.
AC? Service wouldn't hurt but these never get too close to icy ;-) When I
lived in Dallas it was tough to cool, even with the all white color scheme.
I found that covering the dash with a white towel when I had to park in the
sun helped the initail cool down immensely. I also tinted the windows all
around which makes it look pretty nice, too.
I've never seen another white/white leather Coupe. It sounds like you got it
from a private party. What information did he have re: the "Special Edition"
claim? In '86 there was the Commemorative Edition which all had red leather
interior & digital dash. These were a specific package. The digital dash
was a carryover to '87, though not all 87's had it. I've never had a problem
with mine. It is refreshing to look at after driving my 200 with analog
guages.
Congrats on your new car. I also had a VW before the Coupe. It is
definitely a step up. Let me know if you have any questions
