I replaced a timing belt on an 88 Jetta.  The mechanic didn't set the 
timing properly when he was finished.  I found out after an 1800 mile 
trip from FL to Montreal.  I didn't notice it on the highway, but 
pickup around town was terrible. Get the timing checked.
