importing cost

This may be an unanswerable question, but here it goes... What would be
the cost to import a European car into the U.S. and meet spec. Is this
question moot? It possible? I know I am not giving any specifics, but if
anyone has a guess or some experience in this area I would appreciate
some feedback. If this question is impossible, how about this...how much
did it cost to import, for example, an original turbo quattro coupe
before the U.S. spec car was sold in 83'? I own an 82 urq and it was
imported into California in 82' and received some DOT/EPA conversion.
