A4 delivery, my dealer is sucks!

On November 28, 1996, I ordered my Silver A4TQ 5-speed.  I wasn't expecting
delivery until late Feb/March. The problem I'm having is that my dealer
isn't telling me sh*t. It's like he's totally clueless.  In fact, due to
the wonderful members of the Quattro list I feel as if I know more than my
salesman and now I am convinced that I do!  

The fact that my car is not here is not the issue, the problem I'm having
is that I am getting zero information.  The question I have to the list is
what type of information should I be expecting from my dealer.  Don't they
have an order tracking number to see where my order is?  What are the
different codes/letters that indicate the status of the vehicle.  And
finally I understand that if your vehicle has a VIN number then you are
getting very close.  Could somebody outline all this for me. I will use
this information to dump my salesman and go one on one with the general
manager. Thanks!
