I believe the problem is that the OE tires are only H speed rated, which
means that, under ideal conditions, they should be able to withstand
sustained speeds of up to 130mph.  

You can hardly blame Audi for being shy of lawyers, given their previous
experiences in the US... I can see the lawsuits now... "But I didn't read
the owners manual - how was I to know that the tires are only rated for
130mph?  The car should have prevented me from exceeding 130mph!"
