Sticking, clicking valve lifters

Assuming you have hydraulic lifters:
a) Check oil level.
b) Start engine and wait until radiator fan runs.
c) Raise rpm to 2500 for two minutes.
If you can still hear the lifters, one or more needs to be replaced.

True of all injection models. The ban on washing the engine is only when
the motor is running. With the motor off, there should be no problem.
