It may, but what will my speedo read. That is what I am after....a plus
or minus % so that I can quite quickly calculate my true speed when
riding on 195/55 tires. It equals a negative 1.3 % change. So if I am
traveling at 80, then 80x.0128=1.0292. So my actual speed is
80-1.0292=78.9708 or ~79 MPH, not an indicated 80. What you are stating
is that my top speed may actually increase due to a smaller tire, but I
believe that to be false(I_could_be_wrong). My logic is a tire covering
a greater distance(i.e. one with a bigger circumference - in my case a
195/60) per 1 revolution can cover more ground while the axle is
spinning at the same engine speed(rpm number) as a tire with a smaller
circumference. So my top speed may be limited by getting a smaller
diameter tire! Bummer.. :(
Just as a note....I don't even roughly know what my engine speed was
when I saw an indicated 126 MPH, as I didn't want to spend too much time
looking at my cluster, ya know! Next time, I plan on it! But for
argumentive reasons, if the rpms were at 5800 when at 126 MPH on 195/60
tires, and I then did another run with the smaller(in circumference)
195/55 tires at 5800 rpms in the same gear, I would be traveling LESS
feet per minute, therefore less miles per hour! I ask the technical
listers out there, is this all true .....it's been a while since I've
done calculations such as this? How do I incorporate the gearing if I
want to figure this problem out in further detail?
