Audi V6

I have had the chance to drive several 100/A6 Quattro Sedans with the
Audi V6.  I have noticed considerable difference in performance,
especially compared to the 1992 model 100, in that the newer models seem
to have more pep!  My mechanic mentioned that Audi was on it's 3rd or
4th iteration of the V6 and that the newer models did have more low and
midrange punch.

Is this true?  Are the Newer models ('93 - '95) more reliable engine
wise?
