1989 or 1990?

I just bought a 1990 90q20v. Just as I was signing the papers I noticed
that the owner's manual said it was a 1989 even though all other info
(registration etc.) said it was a 1990. The dealer assured me it was a
1990 model and offered to buy it back if it was not a 1990 model.

The dealer also told me that the 10th digit of the serial number is a
"L" which means it is a 1990. The sill plate on the driver's door states
the date of manufacture of March 1989.

It does have the 20 valve engine.

Is this a 1989 ot 1990? Is the owner's manual a mistake?
