ATF in manual trannys

My wife has a Mazda 626 Turbo ( twin of the 89-92 Ford Probe GTs )
that has ATF ( Ford type-F ) in the 5 speed tranny. The owners manual
AND THE SERVICE MANUAL give two options, ATF or 80W90 oil.

The car has 116k on it.....
