U.S. Audi Plant!?!

Hey gang, thought some of you might be interested to know that Audi is
looking into building a plant in the U.S. for around the year 2000. They have
made no final decision on whether or not they will actually build a plant in th
e U.S., or where it will be, but they are seriously looking into it. In fact,
they are looking at two sites here in South Carolina! One is in Orangeburg, an
d the other is the plot of land Mercedes had a bid on before they decided to bu
ild thier plant in Alabama. As most of you already know, BMW has a plant in Sp
artianburg, SC where they make some 318i's and the Z3 roadster. They are looki
ng at a few other sites in the Southeast as well.

This information came from two sources; The Wall Street Journal, and th
e Anderson Edition of the Greenville News (both S.C. newspapers). According to
the later source, Audis decision will be greatly influenced by Audi's sales in
the U.S. over the next two years. So keep buying them Audis! The WSJ article
mostly talks about why the automotive industry is so attracted to the south. W
ell, it is because "the south offers cheaper labor, a largely union-free enviro
nment, and jucy tax breaks and incentives." Well, my hats off to Audi, and I h
ope the decide to build a plant here in our country. Just FYI.
