colour tune
from:Mole
I've used a colour tune kit for some years now with mixed results. On carb
equipped cars I find that the idle condition is generally not stable enough
to allow accurate observation, also the mixture adjustment scale is just too
broad on an average carb. to allow fine adjustment with this tool.It should
also be noted that reaching said screw while craning neck to view plug hole
is a practice that owes more to the discipline of gyneacology than to motor
mechanics.
For injection engines I have had nothing but good experiences with colour
tune. The best example being a Ford Capri 2.8i (K-jetronic),the colourtune
allowing a perfect fine tune to the recommended "bunsen blue" with minimal
farting around. On that cars next visit to the M.O.T. centre it recorded a
C.O. value of 1.8% against a tolerance band of 1.0% to 2.0%,not bad for a
103,000 miler methinks.
