4k oil pressure gauge

Abject apologies to the List for spamming everyone with a sizable
chunk of yesterday's digest. Knew I f***ed up the second I sent it.
I swear it won't happen again; the numerous flaming replies have
conditioned me to avoid it. (Kind of like electro-shock therapy.)

Anyway, a real question: since I replaced a failed timing belt ~1000
miles ago, my oil pressure gauge pegs itself off the scale (way past 5
bar) as soon as the electrical power in the car comes on, regardless
of whether the motor is actually running. And it stays there until I
turn off the electrics. The car seems to be running fine. I'm
guessing this is just a screwed-up sensor (merely annoying), but could
I actually running max oil pressure from the moment I turn the key
(truly bad)? Suggestions appreciated; couldn't find anything on this
     in the archives.

     TIA,

     Dave
