door latch in 86 4qs

I have an 86 quattro, and my passenger front door is giving me problems.
Half of the time when a passenger opens the door from the inside the latch
doesn't stay open, so when they go to close the door, it just bangs
against the car, and doesn't shut.  I think that there is a spring out in
my latch box (gold looking box on the inside of the front door).  Can I
fix this problem?  Do I need to replace the part?  Does anyone have an
extra used on floating around?

It drives me crazy, expecially when the passenger slams the door, and it
bangs against the car.  Thanks for the help!
