Towing with a TQ

Why would anyone think it odd to tow with a TQ? Turbocharging, when
properly engineered, is a perfectly respectable means of extracting the
extra power needed for towing from an otherwise small(ish), fuel efficient
engine. Extra traction afforded by the quattro system makes more
sense than relying on FWD. That TQs are sport sedans/wagons is to
my mind a plus. It suggests that the owner appreciates cars that offer
maximum driving pleasure. The car is unlikely to be used for towing
100% of the time.

I'm sure our overseas listers can confirm that in European countries,
where pickups aren't yet the rage, large sedans like Audis are routinely
purchased for towing duty. Maybe now they are beginning to be
displaced by SUVs, which I hear are nearly as hot in Europe as they
are the U.S. But are SUVs sought for their towing prowess or, more
likely, for their fashionable image?

A while back I used my collection of U.S. and European Audi catalogs
to answer a towing weight limit question for a lister. Audi provides
detailed towing data (including grade climbing maxima) for all its
models. If the original poster (sorry, I can't find the message) will
contact me directly regarding the model(s) he has in mind, perhaps I
can help.
