"they all do that -- the torque curve ends about 5k"
It will pull to redline, just not with much gusto, nor smoothly.

Grant,
I'm not talking about a loss of gusto... I'm refering to a no chance of
redline kinda
thing.
It's possible that I'm all wet on this, (it wouldn't be the first time) but
It
is from my experiences with my 87 4kq... When I bought it, the blasted thing
just
wouldn't go over 5200 or 5300 rpm... AT ALL !!! no R's above that, I'm not
talking
about the down side of the power curve, I'm talking ALL the R's went away.
The
slap you in the face with a sledge hammer kinda deceleration. After much
grief
I found a brand new 321-906-059-H in the fuse box ( the 4cyl relay ). I put
in the
321-906-059-F ( the real 5cyl realy ) and it then made big 'R's. The 6500 and
if you don't shift I'll explode kinda R's.
I spoke with the poster today and he has a 443-907-385 in his car. My
enfantiele
fiche lists this as being a 5cyl relay that is replaced with the " 059-F".
Whereas the
443-907-385-C is replaced with the "059-H" 4cyl relay. So as I almost
apologeticly
started, maybe I'm all wet on this. But, you know how it goes... If it's what
was
wrong with my car... Then all cars with the same symptom must have the same
problem. I suggested that he try a fused jumper to bypass the relay to find
out
if I'm wrong or not (but since his relay is probably the right one), don't
know if he'll try it, but if he does I hope he uses a fused jumper & doesn't
let the smoke leak out of the wires.
