Re: Towing with a TQ

Pete Kraus reasonably asks:

> Why would anyone think it odd to tow with a TQ?

Good Question, Amigo, why indeed?

A couple of years ago, a visitor from the (sadly, now long defunct)
Porschephiles list came by for visit in his '68 912. As we were driving to
my favorite beer & BBQ joint, I suddenly noticed that he was no longer in my
rear-view mirror, so I turned around and retraced my route to find him on the
side of the road, the victim of a broken crankshaft.

Since I live in Maryland, and he was headed home to Missouri after lunch (*LONG*
after, as it turned out, but I digress), and since the Carrera, whatever other
virtues it has (and they are LEGION), TOWING is not on the list. So, following
a stop at Trac Auto for a tow-rope, we swapped the li'l red toy for the trusty
Syncro, and towed him the 10 miles back to my garage. Where he rebuilt the 912
engine. Yes, that extended the visit to 7 days. No, I don't want to comment on
the remainder of the visit, other than to note that fish and houseguests begin
to make their common characteristic known after about 3 days...

But we did establish that a 4KQ is easily capable of towing 2500 lbs...
