Indecision...

I thought I'd made my mind up about this particular issue but in reality, I
seem to be waffling ... so, to get some additional input, I thought I'd
share my dilemma with some fellow car-folks.

I recently discovered that some old "toys" I have are worth more than I
realized ... so much so that if I sold them -- and I'm not yet convinced
that I can bring myself to do this, which is the source of my dilemma -- I'd
have enough money to buy myself the *OTHER* car I have dreamed about since I
was in college: a Ferrari 308 GTB or perhaps even a higher-mileage 328 GTB!

I figure that if I find the right car, buy it right, keep the mileage down
and maintain it myself, I can drive it for a year or two without it costing
me an arm-and-leg then sell it and do something more responsible, like buy a
larger house that will accomodate my girlfriend and her two kids (assuming
things continue as they are!) or invest it for the future (boring).

Does this seem like a truly loony idea or an inspired one?  BTW, the toys
I'd be giving up are my records (you would be surprised by how much they're
worth) and my stereo equipment ... for a lack of space and inclination, I
haven't taken the stereo equipment out of its boxes since 1991 and haven't
listened to more than 100 records since then, either.  The downside to all
this is that if I sell, I'll never be able to replace them because of their
rarity (most are at least 30 years old!) and even if I did, I couldn't
afford them at today's prices...

I thought I'd pretty much decided to keep my collection but when I stopped
for lunch today, I parked next to a bright red 328 -- No, it's NOT for sale
(I asked!) -- and suddenly began to think maybe I should reconsider my
decison...

If anyone has any experience with running a Ferrari on a budget or deciding
whether or not to buy one, drop me a note.  If anyone has any advice they
care to share, please do ... just remember that I am still unsubscribed from
the Quattro list for the time being due to my workload and it might be a
while before I can respond.
