My (recently acquired) 89 200 pulls to redline (it is an automatic sadly) in
each gear with no trouble. It isn't a very speedy pull to redline mind you,
with all of 170 ponies or so and two tons of wiring, computers, and servos to
drag around, but it does get there nicely.
Like some of the others on this thread, I drive for high rpm's. In fact I
generally don't care where the power band is, give me the rev limiter. I find
these and other German makes thrive on it. (By way of comparison I have to
drive my fo*d taurus wagon using the check engine light as a redline.) I
haven't driven this car enough yet to say with any certainty, but it seems
like a 4800 redline would make you a traffic hazzard getting on a highway.
